These 8 only, Black Friday 2024 Limited Edition P70J cardioid dynamic microphones feature a generic mic body loaded with a previously sealed NOS 70's dynamic capsule and a mic transformer.

The Capsules - Earlier in the year I received a box of sealed New Old Stock capsules that had been in storage for many years. The brand is Primo and they were made in Japan in the 70's. See pic 3 for how they looked before I opened and tested them. All are in great physical and working condition. On the side of the capsules is marked the number 6103, but I have no tech info on these at all. After testing it is fairly obvious that they are cardioid and their sound character has a smooth if slightly muted top end (no 57 like fizz), a fairly normal low end (a bit less than a 58) and a good mid range. Due to the age of the capsules there are small tonal and level differences between each of these mics but nothing major, they all have the same character and flavor.

The Bodies - To keep the price down I've gone with these very generic mic bodies. They are hard plastic (not metal) but do have a good quality metal grill that can take a few knocks and the pivot point tightens up well. The transformer I've installed is in a mu-metal cannister so everything is earthed and buzz free. I have also replaced the internal cable and installed a metal mic stand thread.

So the P70J is a good quality 'vintage' dynamic mic in a modern looking body. The mic also comes with a padded bag.

Due to the age of the capsules, the warranty is different to our other products. The capsule is covered by 6 months repair warranty and the body is 1 year repair or replace.
